Testimonials

Randy Fitch was a valuable member of the Quality Control/Quality Assurance team for the 350+ million dollar Sellwood Bridge Project.  The project involved many stakeholders, engineers and multiple construction companies working on various scopes of work including highway and bridge construction. Randy provided the survey required for each area of work, verified survey for others and performed the quality assurance checks required for the project.

Randy assessed the requirements of the bridge design and worked closely with the engineers, erection contractor and the county to ensure the deformed geometry would work as intended by confirming that each stage of construction hit the design points required.

The ability to combine the roles of surveyor and survey quality assurance streamlined the process onsite by allowing the continuity of service with the availability to work through issues in real time. He worked efficiently with the construction crews to provide the staking required, compiled the raw data reports necessary to support the QC/QA program and presented the information to the engineers and inspections as quality assurance verification or substantive data to work through design issues in a productive manner.

Randy Fitch, PLS has the expertise needed to provide any project with excellent survey, analytical analysis and the clear presentation of results to satisfy the strictest of QC/QA programs.

As a construction manager, I have enjoyed working with Randy Fitch on numerous heavy civil construction projects over the years. Randy brings an industry-leading expertise in surveying, modeling, and machine control techniques, as well as an extensive experiential knowledge of construction methods. Difficult construction challenges are always met with practical, expedient, and precise surveying solutions, and as such Randy has been an invaluable contributor to project success.

I have worked with many surveyors in the past, and these surveyors provided the service they were obligated to provide, but working with Randy Fitch has definitely set a new standard. Through Randy’s excellent communication skills and understanding of the overall scope of work, he was able to coordinate with various trades, review the applicable drawings, and provide the required staking the first time even if the staking requested was unclear; which ultimately eliminated a significant amount of rework for our team.

Not only was I extremely impressed with Randy’s construction staking and communication skills, but he was a tremendous help in trouble shooting and contributed greatly to our QC/QA program.  Often, Randy identified issues in advance, analyzed the necessary data and brought solutions forward. Randy was able to perform QC/QA data collections, analyze the data, and report his findings expediently, clearly and with extreme precision. With Randy’s “turn-key” QC/QA abilities, understanding of the project’s overall scope, and superb communication skills, he is by far my surveyor of choice.

Randy Fitch has been very helpful on multiple projects that I have worked on through the years. He brings many tools to the field in regards to his skills in surveying. He is able to provide clear and concise data and if and when there is a design conflict he is able to present the facts and explain in detail that is second to none. He is very knowledgeable in the equipment that is to be used depending on the complexity of the project.

We have currently had Randy join our team at the Sellwood Bridge Project in where we installed 10.5 million lbs of steel and the tolerance was to a 1/16th of an inch spanning over 1200’ across the Willamette River. In addition, too we placed concrete angel wings that had to be monitored and adjusted as the concrete was being poured to insure proper alignment to place the arch steel sections.

There was a lot of doubt on our steel erection team that the 4” dia. X 15’ bolt clusters that were placed in the angel wings would line up and accept the steel arch sections.  The erection team picked up the first arch section and within 5 to 8 minutes the arch section was on the clusters and they started placing the nuts. This occurred at all 12 locations. In my opinion we could of not have been as successful as we were on the Sellwood Bridge without the help of Randy.

Randy Fitch is the best surveyor I have ever worked with and recommend him for any project, big or small.

As General Superintendent of subcontractors for the Sellwood Bridge Project, I was directly involved with our team in helping to solve many challenges faced by the Joint Venture and the CMGC.  One of the biggest challenges that occurred early on in the project pertained to survey accuracy and efficiency.  This issue resulted in costly project delays when survey data to build work repeatedly did not match existing conditions.  This caused considerable frustration for all involved in the project, and it was ultimately determined that a QA/QC-focused surveying company was needed.

Randy Fitch was brought in to solve survey and QA/QC issues with the Sellwood Bridge Project, and he immediately provided renewed confidence that important project milestones would be met.  Randy has an efficient process of locating the latest drawings to produce survey data that assists in redesign issues.    He was excellent at making sure each phase rolled smoothly into the next and that the end product met specifications.

Randy’s work was integral to the success of the project at every phase.  The civil contractors developed tremendous trust and confidence in Randy’s survey and data producing skills as a result of his methodology.  He researched and prepared data as requested by contractors throughout the project, and he would then provide QA/QC by verifying that a structure such as a retaining wall, phases of state highway OR 43, and the bridge itself met specifications. He always had the time and patience to make sure everyone understood the information he provided so that every phase of work was successfully completed.

Bottom line, Randy was an invaluable asset to the Joint Venture and Sellwood Bridge project.  He was always pleasant to work with day in and day out, and his communication and professional skills were exceptional.  It would have been difficult to deliver a high-quality product without his contributions. I highly recommend Randy Fitch, and I look forward working with him on a future project!
